Luke and I were practicing our letters today and we got to the M. The corresponding picture is a moon so after some discussion about the moon Luke says "we need to get a ladder, a tall, tall, tall, BIG ladder so we can go to the moon." I told him the moon was too far away, we would need a spaceship. He says, "We go get a spaceship at Hoes (that's what he calls Lowes)." I said I didn't think they had spaceships at Lowes and he said "Yeah, they do. They have light bulps and ladders like Daddy's and things for walls like paint. They have spaceships."

Luke woke from his nap that day possessed by Wormwood. There was nothing I could do to calm him. Keith was late coming home. We had to push our appointment back a half hour. Add to that, the wind was trying to make it to Canada in 10 seconds flat! It was not looking good for our family photos.
But luckily, we were in the best of hands. Once we met up with Kristen, things started working out. She took us to a secluded non-windy area (hard to find), made Luke laugh, smile, and worked magic with her camera. It. Was. Great!

Six months worth

Our blog has been in "pause" mode for quite awhile so we now get to "fast forward" to the present. It will probably be in two installments. Here's the first:

For spring break, we went to Chicago and Nauvoo for Laura's wedding. Luke sure had fun at the Arch in St. Louis.

The Sears Tower elevator was as impressive as the whole building! Very fast. Luke doesn't look tired at all, does he?

Luke was excited for Laura and Nick's big day.

Walking around the temple at night with Keith was one of many highlights of the week. It's one of the most peaceful places I've ever been.

What a handsome young boy!

Luke has learned haircuts and candy go together like Bert and Ernie, chocolate and peanut butter, bicycles and tight shorts.

Summer California Trip

This summer we flew to California. Beautiful weather, sandy beaches (mostly), and wonderful company all made for a vacation to remember. It was action-packed: flew in to San Diego Tues morning, spent the rest of the day with Keith's bro Ryan, Donna, and Kasia at the San Diego Zoo. It lives up to the hype, for sure. Absolutely beautiful landscaping, wide variety of animals with environments/exhibits being the nicest I've seen.

The next day we went to Seaworld and watched the shows and walked around. Our favorite show was not Shamu, but "Clyde and Seamore's Risky Rescue." Hilarious. Sea Lions are smart AND funny. The Dolphin Discovery was fun, but getting to touch the Rays was even better. They're squishier than I'd thought. Luke and Kasia were great. Aren't they adorable?

Then Wednesday evening we drove up to San Clemente and stayed with Keith's aunt Linda for a few days. During that time, was the Bellon Family Reunion (Grandma Mehner's side). Thursday afternoon was a dinner at a Nature Park Center, Friday was up at a lake in the mountains, and Saturday we spent at Corona del Mar Beach and then at a relative's home for dinner and more swimming and games.

But now for the main event. This summer Keith's grandparents were sealed in the Newport Temple and it was something! Special doesn't even begin to describe this most important occasion.

They are so happy! But I'll tell you what, Grandma is a lesson in patience. They'd only been married 58 years! Keith's father and uncle were sealed to them as well.
The next few days were spent with Grandma and Grandpa, playing cards, taking walks, eating good food. Treasured memories.

We put in a border around our flower beds a couple months ago. As you can see Luke did the supervising, as usual.

We used a blue hackett tumbled stone that we just couldn't be happier with.

Luke's First Haircut!!

Let's be honest, Luke doesn't have a whole lot of hair to begin with so why does he need it cut? The little guy's hair was growing faster on the sides than the top! So about a month ago we just trimmed it up some.

We never could quite figure out if Luke liked getting his hair cut or not. At least it will be awhile until his next. I don't think I liked this look he was giving me.

I need to catch up on the goings-on at the Mehner household. About a month and a half ago, I was in a little accident. Exhibit A:

Fortunately, no one was hurt, the guy who hit us was nice (albeit a bad driver), and his insurance company was easy to work with. All-in-all, it could have been worse.

Luke's Great Adventure

As most of you know, Luke had the opportunity to spend some time at a very nice, expensive hotel called Children's Hospital. It's a very elitist establishment, only certain kids are allowed and Luke was lucky enough to have MRSA as his ticket in. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, to be exact. The employees there took great care of his every whim and fancy. Be it x-rays, ultrasounds, IV's, a little morphine, blood work, and all the tubes and wires ones little heart could hope for..

As you can see, once his fever was under control, he was his normal happy camera-loving self. And no, his arm is not broken as the blue brace might suggest. That was just to prevent him from pulling out that really cool tube in his arm.

I want you all to know that normally MRSA doesn't require a 5 day/4 night hospital stay. It was a combination of 1) the infection was deep in Luke's skin to begin with 2) lack of awareness on his parent's part and 3) he would throw up his prescribed oral antibiotics. Mix that together and you get a high systemic fever and no improvement. Thus, the IV antibiotics at the hospital. And boy did they give him the superstar of all antibiotics. The all-powerful Vancomycin. I really don't like to think of what this has done for his system in the future. But, at least, he doesn't suffer from MRSA anymore. Just a cold he picked up at the hospital. We like to think of it as his going-home-thank-you-for-staying-with-us-come-again gift.

Greetings friends and family!! I just wanted to announce that little Luke crawled earlier this week!! He's growing up so fast! Now don't get me wrong, he's not crawling all over the house or on demand or anything. It's more just like crawl a few feet, fall down, scoot a little ways, crawl a foot or two more, fall down...etc... And he doesn't do it all the time. Only when there's something out of reach that he really wants. Otherwise he's still content to scoot around. But still! It's so cute. I wish I could get it on video but unfortunately our video camera is being a little twerp and not working. (Of all times!)

Hi Everyone!
Well, Luke had his first taste of "solid" foods today. He's such a good eater he hardly got any rice cereal on his bib! I don't think he cared much for the taste but he sure likes using the spoon. He threw a little fit yesterday when I didn't give him any of my lunch.
On another note, just to update, Keith took and passed the first part of his National Dental Board Exam. Congratulations to him! He had to pass to continue with school and pass he did. I never had any doubts.

Luke is doing great! He is starting to make a lot of noises, even while he sleeps sometimes. He no longer fits into his 0-3months clothes even though he is only 8 weeks. He is a great eater.
